It was the store itself that launched the alert. The ham-Emmental sandwiches sold in self-service at Monoprix would have a big problem with labeling. Some consumers risk serious allergies by eating them.

Chain reminders

As far as mass distribution is concerned, the first half of this year was marked by inflation, shortages and product recalls. We all remember the scandal caused by the contaminated Fraîch’Up frozen pizzas of the Buitoni brand which broke out in March 2022.

On April 6, it was the turn of Fromageries de Normandie (Lactalis Group) to be withdrawn from the shelves. At the same time, Kinder chocolate eggs from the Ferrero group, which hit the headlines for the risk of salmonella poisoning.

All this, not to mention the sugar cubes that may contain pieces of glass recalled by Top budget (Intermarché group) or dog food products that may contain arsenic.

Recently, E.Leclerc also recalled aperitif products for risks of listeria contamination. This Tuesday, May 17, it is the Monoprix sandwiches which are the subject of a recall.

Reminder Conso indicates that the products mentioned above present a danger of contamination. Listeria or Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that causes a disease called listeriosis. This pathology, which attacks the nervous system, can be fatal. In case of fever or “fever, isolated or accompanied by headaches, and body aches”, contact a doctor indicating the consumption of the suspected product.

Monoprix is sounding the alarm itself

Consumers have learned to pay attention to what they consume. Some have even made a habit of visiting the government site Rappel Conso to reassure themselves. Fortunately, some brands are taking the lead in informing their customers themselves. This is the case of monoprix.

The brand alerted the public to the ham-Emmental baguette sandwich distributed from 05/11/2022 to 05/16/2022 in its stores. The batches concerned bear the number 3350033772342. These sandwiches were intended to be consumed before a date between 05/16/2022 and 05/21/2022.

It should be noted, however, that the Ham-Emmental sandwich, sold in self-service, is not contaminated. The recall is motivated by a defect in the labeling. The problem therefore lies in the fact that the presence of sesame in the bread is not mentioned on the packaging. And this, while this substance is likely to cause serious allergies in some people.

sesame allergy

The presence of sesame in the product may endanger allergy sufferers. Allergy to this substance can affect both children and adults. The reaction varies from case to case. Thus, this undeclared allergenic substance can cause asthma, hives, digestive disorders or itching in the throat and palate in some people.

In some people, this allergy can cause swelling in the eyes, face, lips, throat and tongue. It might even prevent them from breathing normally. Sometimes this allergy can even cause a drop in blood pressure and loss of consciousness.

Monoprix invites customers who have purchased these products to throw them away or bring them back to the store for a refund. For more information, do not hesitate to contact consumer service.
