A young Nigerian man has earned the award for the best performing teacher in the school where he worked.
The man, identified as Adekoya Raheem, was celebrated and honoured at Education District IV in Lagos state.
Raheem, a Sanya Senior Grammar School Ijeshatedo Surulere Lagos teacher, was presented with a cheque of N20,000.
He shared a photo of himself holding the cash prize given to him by Action for Change and Empowerment, an organisation affiliated with the government.
The teacher dedicated the award to his mother and all those who have tutored him in one way or the other in his journey.

“In lofty recognition of outstanding performances, excellence contributions, commitment and dedication to service as an outstanding educator in education 2022. Presented to ADEKOYA ABDULRAHEEM TIJANI (Sanya senior grammar school Ijeshatedo Surulere Lagos). Alhamdullilai. I dedicated this to my teachers, especially my darling mother,” he wrote on Facebook.
However, social media users have reacted to the prize given to Adekoya Raheem, saying the money was too small and is not enough incentive for him to keep doing great work.
Meanwhile, Teni Apata, a popular Nigerian singer, helped put a smile on an old teacher’s face as she gifted him a brand new Lexus in honour of teacher’s day.
In a viral video, the singer handed the keys to the car to her old secondary school teacher, whom she tagged as her favourite at the time.
The teacher, Mr Ofudje, was her high school mathematics teacher, and the songstress used the opportunity to appreciate him for his diligence, integrity and hard work.
